As a teenager, I was diagnosed with follicular Thyroid Cancer which was very rear in children. Infact, I was at that time, the second child to ever have it in the USA. Although I knew very little about Cancer in general, it was very scary because I knew it was a deadly disease.
At the time that I was diagnosed, we were told it was an aggressive type and had already metastasized into my brain, pressing on my optic nerve and also in my left ribs.
I had three (3) major surgeries, Chemotherapy, radiation and natural supplements to boost my immunity. Daily prayers boosted my faith and hope. I was very lucky that my parents had Health Insurance which covered almost all of my treatments but at a point, my mother had to work part time in order to take care of me at home. This was when we had our financial challenges. Luckily, Embrace Kids Foundation came in to help us pay our mortgage and also gave us gift certificates for food and basic essentials.
I was blessed with excellent physicians and a supportive family who have been with me through thick and thin. Unfortunately I lost sight in both eyes but have been able to continue my education and now hold a master’s degree in Social work and gainfully employed.
The question I’ve been asking myself is “if we had lost our house, what would have happened to us, especially my younger sister and I”? Despite the fact that I had full medical insurance and some of the best doctors taking care of me, my family and I still had financial needs. This is why I have developed a great interest to help children in Ghana who are financially underprivileged and who are going through what I went through to get treatment and basic necessities.
This is the goal of Miracle Of Faith Children’s Services. To touch and change the lives of children and teenagers battling cancer and their families by raising money to help pay for the cost of treatments, supply them with medications, supplements and some basic necessities. Give free boarding and lodging during treatment for out of state patients and more.
It is my hope that we will be able to help most, if not all of the children who will come to us, with the help of Embrace Kids Foundation and You.
Thanks for your generosity.
